A characterisation of the public transport sector in Dodoma, Tanzania

In order to complete the bachelor Human Geography at the University of Amsterdam, a research project was set up on the informal public transport sector in Dodoma, Tanzania.

This study’s general objective was to assess the supply and use of public transport in Dodoma town.
To reach this general objective, more specific objectives in this research were to:
1. Identify the types of public transport available in Dodoma.
2. Assess the quality and quantity of the available public transport.
3. Identify challenges, obstacles and opportunities to improve public transport in Dodoma.

The study was based on several methodologies. A literature review, the creation of a map, traffic counting, questionnaire surveys, interviews and participative observation were all used in collecting data and information.
