Background information
My thesis involved research in three main areas: calculation of directional wave spectra from high frequency radar measurements; dynamical modelling of ocean waves; statistical methods for the comparison of data sets.
The final output of the MSc. thesis was a method enabling a simple and effective way of forecasting wave conditions on board of ships. This involved running an assimilated wave model on a ship-based PC, making use of ship wave observations and possibly other data, and was shown to be useful for providing wave forecasts along different ship routes.
